2017 TWMXRS Terra Firma Series | Round One | Milestone MX
The 2017 TWMXRS Terra Firma Series, presented by SPY is officially underway after kicking off the opening round in proper form at Milestone MX. It was a hot and humid kind of day at the Riverside County Facility, but that didn’t stop the nearly 500 race entrants from flooding the parking lot in the early morning hours. Once racers arrived, they were greeted by all-new course layouts to both “Amateur” and “Expert” tracks that are challenging enough for the more advanced riders, yet safe enough for every skill level to enjoy. Seemingly the highlight of the day, though, occurred immediately after the first round of motos, as long-time TWMXRS attendee Loren Pochirowski became the lucky winner of the 2017 Yamaha YZ250F giveaway. Congrats, Loren!Loren Pochirowski was the lucky winner of the 2017 Yamaha YZ250F raffle at the opening round of the Terra Firma Series.
Matthew Hubert was a man on a mission at round one! The #47 threw his hat into the ring of three separate classes this weekend at Milestone MX, and was successful in obtaining an impressive five moto wins out of six giving him the overalls in 250 and 450 Intermediate. Although moto wins never come easy, the 19 year old really had has work cut out for him after stalling his bike in the opening minutes of one of his motos. Once up and running again, though, Hubert put his head down, and set his sights on the front-runner, who he was able to reel in and pass by the time the checkers flew. For his unrelenting efforts, consistency and speed, Hubert was selected for the “SPY Breakaway Rider” award. Congrats, Matt!Matt Hubert put in one of the more impressive performances of the day with a total of five moto wins, which not only earned him two overalls, but the “SPY Breakaway Rider” award, as well.
One of the biggest classes of the day was Open 85-150F/Supermini, as it held a total of 27 racers on the starting line each moto. Supermini typically hosts the oldest and the fastest of the mini bike racers that will soon make the move up to big bikes, and from the looks of it those in the big bike classes may have their hands full sometime in the near future. Cole Cook, Andrew Hertzler and Blake Gardner were the three to beat in the Supermini division, but it was Cook that emerged the victor. The overall didn’t come without a fight from Hertzler and Cook, though, as the two kept the #54 on his toes each time they were on the track.Cole Cook was another rider that accumulated several moto wins amidst three separate classes; 5 out of 6 to be exact. It was a near perfect day for young Cook, but he was still able to take home all three overalls in Supermini, 85/150F 12-13 yrs and Big Wheel Open.
Three-time Arenacross Champion Tyler Bowers came out to the opening round of the Terra Firma Series to gain a little bit of seat-time after just recently returning to riding from a broken femur that occurred back in January. Bowers has only been in the saddle for a short amount of time, but he still lined up for 450 Pro and Pro-Open, and after a few brief battles with TWMXRS regulars Sean Lipanovich and Jeremy Byrne, the Supercross Main Event winner moved into the lead to ultimately take all four moto wins along with both overalls.Multi-time Arenacross Champion Tyler Bowers came out to Milestone MX for round one of the Terra Firma Series to further acquaint himself with riding and racing after suffering an injury at the beginning of the year. The Pro class heavyweight took all four moto wins in 450 Pro and Pro-Open for both overalls.
Thanks to all that joined us at Milestone MX for round one of the TWMXRS Terra Firma Series, presented by SPY, and a special thanks to the generous people at Yamaha for their continued support of the future of amateur motocross racing! We look forward to seeing you all again at the second stop of the series, which will be held on July 23rd at Pala Raceway. See ya there!
