In between races, we took some time to browse our hard drives and look at photos taken throughout the year. We'll highlight each shot in a daily post, with the image sized to fit your computer screen or smartphone and described with a small backstory…
It's that time of year again. The time of year that the entire motocross community floods Las Vegas, NV for the annual running of the Monster Energy Cup. Some of the best athletes in the world flock to this event, as it features everything from the Dirt Shark Best Whip contest to the million dollar, winner-take-all, three-moto pro race that serves as the Main Event of sorts. One of the events I really look forward to each year, though, is the Amateur All-Stars class that's comprised of seemingly every top amateur motocross racer from around the world.
Enzo Lopes hails from Brazil and is one of the many Amateur All-Stars lining up this Saturday night, as he returns for his sophomore year at the MEC. 2017 was Lopes' first trip to the event, but unfortunately he took a spill ultimately killing his chances of showing his true potential. However, I've bared witness to the unrelenting hard work he and his trainer – former factory rider Brett Metcalfe – have been putting in at the local SX practice tracks these last few weeks in preparation for the upcoming SX/MX style race, and I have to admit that I'm pretty excited to see how it all goes down. Besides being one of the nicest kids in the pits, this 18 year old absolutely rips, and he encompasses a riding style similar to that Ryan Dungey's, so keep your eye on the #16 after the gate drops this Saturday night.
