In between races, we took some time to browse our hard drives and look at photos taken throughout the year. We’ll highlight each shot in a daily post, with the image sized to fit your computer screen or smartphone and described with a small backstory…

It’s time to take the racing outdoors now, and I have to admit that I’m pretty excited for the opening round of the 2017 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship at Hangtown, but I’m most excited for the 250 class. There’s never any lack of action in the 250 class, and I think some of that could be attributed to the younger generation of athletes in that particular class like Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki’s Austin Forkner that are seemingly willing to lay it all on the line. The Richards, MO native’s rookie outdoor season came in 2016 where he turned a lot of heads even at the opening round thanks to an impressive 8th overall. Following the opening round, Forkner went on a tear for the remainder of the series finishing outside of the top ten only one time, quickly establishing himself as one of the class’ top competitors. The outdoor rookie even captured his first moto win during the second moto at Washougal MX, but just a few weeks later at the series finale in Indiana Forkner’s most impressive performance came after earning his career-first overall at an outdoor national.

Needless to say, I think Mitch Payton’s young gun will play a huge roll in the 250 class points chase, as he is one of the favorites to take the championship. It’s going to get wild this weekend in Praire City!
