In between races, we took some time to browse our hard drives and look at photos taken throughout the year. We'll highlight each shot in a daily post, with the image sized to fit your computer screen or smartphone and described with a small backstory…

Some college-aged people go to Europe for a quick sight-seeing trip to some of the world's iconic landmarks or cities. Few make it a career choice the way Thomas Covington has. Just when the Alabama-native rider was set to join the professional ranks in the United States, Covington took an unexpected career turn and lined up in the MX2 division of the Monster Energy FIM Motocross World Championship. The decision has paid off well, both on the track and off of the track, as Covington is a front-runner in the competitive class and has traveled to numerous nations around the globe, like this shot from the 2016 MXGP of Lombardia in Mantova, Italy.

If Covington wanted to return to the United States, certainly a team would bring him under their tent, but a contract extension with Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing will keep him in the title hunt through 2018. In a few weeks, Covington will line up in Florida for the 2017 MXGP of USA and then later take advantage of the rules that allow American racers to compete for Puerto Rico (an unincorporated territory of the USA) at the 2017 Motocross of Nations. How will he fare against the international field, which will include American racers at both events? We're excited to see the outcome…
