LOS ANGELES – May 17, 2017 – Day Two of Nitro World Games qualifying saw the action hit the dirt in the Freestyle Motocross competition. With athletes from North America, South America, Europe, and Australia, it was truly a global field. Eight riders advanced to the semifinal round and have a chance to compete in the finals on Saturday, June 24 at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
Javier Villegas took the top spot, punching his ticket to Salt Lake City for his second year. Joining him in the semifinal round will be Fred Kyrillos as well as veteran rider Steve Mini. Also qualifying were Leo Fini, Davide Rossi, Blake “Bilko” Williams, Cal Vallone and Anthony Murray.
Prior to Tuesday’s qualifiers, 2016 FMX winner Levi Sherwood was invited directly to the finals this year. Josh Sheehan and Taka Higashino, who took second and third place respectively last summer, are invited directly to the 2017 semifinals. Clinton Moore, Harry Bink and Maikel Melero have also been invited by the competition committee to the 2017 semi’s. Additional wildcard spots will be chosen to round out the semifinal field.
