The opening round of the 2017 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross series is about to kick off this weekend at Hangtown MX. Each and every year, the summer series visits twelve different tracks all across the country, many of which have been on the circuit for decades. These tracks are all unique and individual, and we wanted to find out what tracks the professionals like best. If the photo above wasn’t evidence enough, it’s crunch time out at the local tracks. Luckily for us, a few guys were kind enough to have a word with us to answer one basic question…

What is your favorite national track, and why?

Austin Forkner | Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki

“Probably some of the East coast tracks. Millville was good, so was Red Bud. I liked Ironman too. I’m not sure which one is my favorite; there were a few that I really liked on the East coast. I like any of the tracks that get gnarly and have ruts.”

Kyle Cunningham | AutoTrader/Monster Energy/Toyota/JGRMX/Suzuki

“I’d probably say RedBud. The dirt is awesome, the track gets rough, and it develops a lot of lines. Plus the atmosphere of the weekend is great, being July fourth weekend. The fans are great and crazy. It makes for a cool race and I’ve always loved the track.”

Shane McElrath | Troy Lee Designs/GoPro/Red Bull/KTM

“I’d probably have to say Muddy Creek because it’s my hometown race. I grew up about a hundred miles from there. When it comes to the old track, I could probably ride it with my eyes closed. It’s cool to get to go to that one, be close to home, and see all of my friends and family. I feel like the whole crowd is there to cheer me on.”

Jon Jon Ames | Privateer

“I’m a rookie, so I haven’t done the circuit, but I’ve hit a couple of them. I’d have to say Millville. I love that place. There’s sand, clay, and a little bit of everything. I’m excited to see the whoops. I hope the whoop monster is there [laughs]! Millville is known for that whoops section, and I know it’s going to be hard and fast, but I look forward to hitting those things for sure.”

Adam Cianciarulo | Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki

“Washougal because it’s different than every other one and I like the dirt there, the scenery is cool too. Plus the vibe is really different from all of the other nationals. I seem to really enjoy it there.”

Alex Martin | Troy Lee Designs/GoPro/Red Bull/KTM

“Millville’s probably my favorite obviously, but there are actually quite a few that I like; Millville, High Point, RedBud, and Southwick. The tracks are pretty badass when it comes to race day because of how well they’re prepped. Most of them are pretty fun.”

Dakota Tedder | Team Tedder Racing

“Can they bring back Freestone? Freestone is definitely my favorite. Glen Helen is a favorite because I’ve ridden there forever. Besides that, I’d have to say RedBud is probably one of my favorites. It’s got the sand rollers section and LaRocco’s Leap, that’s always a great time. Plus it’s a good racetrack, there are lots of good passing lines.”

Cooper Webb | Monster Energy/Yamalube/Chaparral/Yamaha Financial Services/Yamaha

“My favorite track, that I’m sure you’ve heard a lot, is RedBud. It’s the one that track wise is the most fun ever. The dirt is perfect, it gets rough and rutted and it has it all. The jumps are big and fun too. Plus it’s cool to hangout on the Fourth of July with all of the fans. That just makes things that much more awesome. It’s one of those tracks that everybody really likes and it’s just a good racetrack.”

Mitchell Oldenburg | Troy Lee Designs/GoPro/Red Bull/KTM

“My favorite national track is probably High Point. We normally do press day there every year, so we get into town a little early and get to check out Morgantown, PA. I’ve always seemed to do good there; I think that has a lot to do with it as well. It’s a fun track and they’re always making changes so I look forward to being there every year.”
