Last week we received an invite from Jimmy Fitzpatrick – the owner and operator of Fitzland – to attend his FMX compound for the second-annual Paul Smith Ride Day. Smith was a 49 year old freestyle motocross rider that moved to the US from Nova Scotia in 2004 to pursue his dream of becoming a professional FMX rider. “Smitty” was well liked throughout the FMX community and even held the record as the oldest motocross rider to do a backflip on a full-sized dirt bike! Just over a year ago, though, “Smitty” under-rotated a backflip at Fitzland resulting in a devastating crash. The motocross community lost a great athlete that day, so to honor his legacy Fitzpatrick assembled the second-annual Paul Smith Ride Day.
