During the 2017 MXGP of Belgium at Lommel over the weekend, Team Italy announced their lineup for the 2017 Motocross of Nations. The three-man roster will be led by multi-time MXGP world champion and Red Bull KTM rider Antonio Cairoli in the MXGP (450cc) Class, Team Honda HRC MX2 rider Michele Cervellin in MX2 (250cc) Class, and Team Honda Redmoto Assomotor's Alessandro Lupino in the Open (250cc-450cc) class.

Cairolli and Cervellin were a part of Team Italy in 2016 when the Motocross of Nations took place in Maggiora, Italy, in which they finished fifth overall. Cairolli has represented Italy at a number of MXON events during his career, be it on a 250cc or 450cc machine. With this experience and his status as the current MXGP championship leader, he's selection is no surprise. Cervellin is currently ranked eleventh overall in the MX2 championship, as the young rider has faced challenges throughout the season that have resulted in zero-point scored finishes but he is the top placing Italian in the 250 class. Lupino's inclusion to the team is also a clear choice, as he is fifteenth overall in the MXGP standings and last year's Open Class participant Samuele Bernardini is currently sidelined with injury.

The 2017 Motocross of Nations takes place September 29th-October 1st at Matterley Basin in England. The event's official website is www.mxon17.com
