The 2017 Motocross of Nations is just a few months away and over the next few weeks, we expect countries to announce the three-rider rosters they plan to field in the quest for the Chamberlain Trophy. News has already trickled out of Canada, as on Tuesday afternoon the team issued a press release with their lineup for the international race.
The Canada effort will have Colton Facciotti racing in MXGP (450cc class), Shawn Maffenbeier racing in MX2 (250cc class), and Tyler Medaglia in Open (up to 450cc), with Kourtney Lloyd once again serving as Team Manager.
Team Canada finished tenth overall in the 2016 running of the event, as Kaven Benoit posted 8-12 moto results in MXGP, Shawn Maffenbeier posted 25-32 moto results in MX2, and Tyler Medaglia posted 18-35 moto results in Open.
The three riders chosen to represent the country have done well so far this summer in the 2017 Rockstar Energy Drink Motocross Nationals, a series that takes place throughout Canada. Facciotti claimed the overall victory in the MX1 division at the sixth round of the series and is ranked third in the MX1 point standings, while Medaglia is fifth in the point standings. Maffenbeier is currently in a close battle with Cole Thompson for the top spot in the MX2 point standings.
The 2017 Motocross of Nations takes place September 29th-October 1st at Matterley Basin in England. The event’s official website is www.mxon17.com
