When we talked to Jordon Smith on Tuesday night at the launch of the 2018 collection of Troy Lee Designs gear, he made it quite clear that there was a chance he would pull out of the opening round of the 2017 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship. Still dealing with lingering soreness from his hard crash at the 2017 Las Vegas SX and with very little time on the bike, the plan for the Troy Lee Designs/GoPro/Red Bull/KTM rider was to give the Thursday riding session a try and then make the decision. Unfortunately, Smith feels too banged up to participate in this weekend’s race and his focus now turns to a later round of the series.
His full statement regarding the decision reads in full below…
Unfortunately I have to inform everyone that I am going to have to sit out this weekend’s race… my whole team and myself have done everything we can to rehab my back from my crash in Vegas. I tried to ride at press day today and it was still too painful! Thanks to the whole team and everyone for sticking behind me no matter what! Not sure when I’ll be able to return yet but hopefully it will be sooner than later!
