Bike failures were the order of the day at Glen Helen. Everywhere you looked there were riders pulling over to look down at whatever disaster befell them. Joey Savatgy had a heart breaker late in thge second 250 moto.
Glen Helen’s massive sand section wasn’t actually made of beach sand. Instead, it was built with decomposed granite that had been rolled down the river next to the racetrack during SoCal’s rainy season. However, it worked just like sand, as Zach Osborne can attest to.
You can tell that Dylan Ferrandis is not leading. How do you know? The two separate roosts flying up simultaneously from the other side of the wall jump are a dead give-away that he’s got some work to do. Dylan was a GP racer, but when he was thrown out of the 250 World Championships when he turned 23 years old, he moved to America.
There could be a separate AMA 450 National division for the four Suzuki RM-Z450 riders. Broc Tickle, Justin Bogle, Weston Peick and Justin Barcia are 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th in 450 National points. JGR’s Peick (32) was the best of the yellow bikes at Glen Helen with a fifth.
Eli Tomac had negative things about Marvin Musquin moving at the New York Supercross to let Ryan Dungey by, but was pretty mum about Josh Grant moving over for him at Glen Helen. Josh was visibly upset by the pit board orders.
Christian Craig was on his way to a solid score and being the highest ranking Team Honda rider, but he lost the front end of the CRF450 going into the sand section. As he fell, he punched the ground with his fist—breaking a knuckle. He’s out for a couple races while it heals from surgery.
