TransWorld Motocross 2019 450 MX Shootout | Transworld Motocross

We’ve been busy testing all of the 2019 450 MX bikes for months now, as we first started to take delivery of new machines back in June. Of the six machines, five of them are either all-new or boast significant changes, and this made our 2019 450 MX Shootout more interesting than ever! Last year, the Husqvarna FC 450 topped the field with the majority of the test riders’ votes and was followed by the KTM 450 SX-F, Honda CRF450R, Yamaha YZ450F, Kawasaki KX450F, and Suzuki RM-Z450.

For 2019, here’s how the rundown of significant changes and updates went, by bike…

Honda CRF450R – New mainframe with revised spars for greater rigidity – Softer swingarm – Revised suspension settings – New exhaust – New ECU settings – Revised clutch

– Renthal Fatbars

Husqvarna FC 450 – New more-rigid chassis – Revised suspension settings – New cylinder head – Pankl transmission

– New bodywork

Kawasaki KX450 – New chassis – New engine – Hydraulic clutch – Electric start – Spring Showa fork – Larger front axle

– New bodywork

KTM 450 SX-F – New more-rigid chassis – Revised suspension settings – New cylinder head – Pankl transmission

– New bodywork

Suzuki RM-Z450 – Bold New graphics

– Supposed revised suspension settings (we can't get a straight answer)

Yamaha YZ450F – Stiffer seat foam

– Stiffer fork axle lugs and new wheel spacers for greater rigidity in front-end

As stated before, we’ve been spinning countless laps on all of the bikes since taking delivery of them, and with plenty of track days spent on most of the 2019 450s, we sent them back to the manufacturers for overhauls, wrapped all the wheels with Dunlop's new MX33 soft-to-intermediate terrain tires, and converged on Cahuilla Creek MX Park for one final day of head-to-head comparison testing with six experienced test riders of varying age, speed, and ability. Ties were broken by two subsequent days of comparison testing, and though this year's TransWorld Motocross 450 Shootout results were as close as ever, there was a definitive favorite among the panel, and some shocking shake ups in the overall standings.
