In between races, we took some time to browse our hard drives and look at photos taken throughout the year. We’ll highlight each shot in a daily post, with the image sized to fit your computer screen or smartphone and described with a small backstory…

The Red Bull Straight Rhythm is one of the coolest off-season events and it is always a lot of fun to attend. Because of its timing, it is here that we sometimes get to see racers run their new numbers, bikes, or apparel sponsors for the first time. After years with his familiar 314, Alex Ray looked like a whole new guy on his Rock River Yamaha YZ450F at the Pomona Fairplex, decked out in fresh O’Neal gear and flying his new number 91. “I like it,” he said. “I’ll miss my old number, but it’s nice to have an earned two-digit number.”

In the heat, Ray was eliminated by eventual-runner-up Josh Hansen, but nonetheless, he looked fit and fast in his new getup. A long-time privateer, Ray is looking forward to what he can do in his first full season on the Yamaha-backed Rock River squad, and so are we. Follow his adventures on Instagram @alexray_91
