Millville, Minn. (July 22, 2018) - Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki's Joey Savatgy and Austin Forkner made the most of challenging motos to finish inside the top 10 at Round 8 at Spring Creek MX Park. Savatgy grabbed the Moto 1 holeshot and rode a great second moto to finish with a 10-4 score for fifth overall, while Forkner climbed onto the podium in Moto 1 but ran into trouble in the second moto to finish eighth overall with a 2-18 moto score.

Savatgy started off the day confident and strong as he posted the second-fastest qualifying time leading into the motos. When the gate dropped on Moto 1, Savatgy put the power to the ground and grabbed his first holeshot of the season. The lead was surrendered when he went down not long after, dropping down to 14th at one point. The mistake wouldn't hold him back from giving it his all and eventually worked his way to 10th.

Looking for some vindication in Moto 2, Savatgy got a decent start in sixth and immediately started to put pressure on to move forward. Despite the track being at its roughest in Moto 2, he made several passes and finished fourth. His 10-4 score helped him round out the top five overall.

"I felt really good all morning and was so happy to get my first holeshot of the season," said Savatgy. "It's such a bummer how one small mistake can take it away. I lost a lot of momentum and took a little time to get going. I didn't want to make the same mistake in Moto 2, but the leaders were checking out pretty quick by the time I made my passes. Each week we learn something and I just need to put together two solid motos to get my first overall podium."

Like Savatgy, Forkner started the day with a good showing in qualifying, posting the fourth-fastest time. In Moto 1, he started at the front in third and was patient as he waited for the perfect opportunity to pass for second on the technical track. He finished in second, making that his fifth moto podium result this season. It was another good start in Moto 2 that put him on track for another overall podium, but after going down when colliding with a lapper, Forkner was forced to settled for 18th that moto. With his second, that helped keep him inside the top 10, finishing eighth overall with his 2-18 score.

"That was definitely not how I wanted to end the day," said Forkner. "It's been a season that has taught me a lot about overcoming adversity, whether it's something that is my fault or someone else's. There are some things we can control and some we can't. I just have to go out and give it my best every time I line up behind that gate."
