Jeffrey Herlings Fractures Collarbone, Undergoes Surgery
Red Bull KTM MXGP has confirmed that Jeffrey Herlings fractured his collarbone during a practice crash in The Netherlands on June 13th, 2018, and underwent surgery shortly after to repair the damage. Per the release, the fracture occurred near the plate that was inserted to repair a previous injury.
KTM went on to say that although nothing is official, it’s likely that Herlings will miss this weekend’s race, the 2018 MXGP of Lombardia-Italy.
Herlings is the currently MXGP championship leader in the 2018 Monster Energy FIM Motocross World Championship, as the Dutch racer has claimed sixteen moto wins and eight overall victories of the ten rounds contested so far, and is 68 points ahead of title rival Antonio Cairoli. Should Herlings miss this weekend’s race and Cairoli sweep both motos, Herlings would still manage to retain the championship lead by 18 points.
