2018 Washougal Motocross | Bell Helmets Race Report | Transworld Motocross

Round 9 – Washougal, WA – July 28, 2018

What can you say about Factory Kawasaki’s Eli Tomac other than he was absolutely, spectacularly, amazing at Washougal!

Tomac took control of Moto 1 towards the end of lap 3 and by lap 11 had a solid 8.5-second lead eventually winning by over 11 seconds.

In Moto 2, it was a different story – Tomac did not have the best start but did have the best come-from-behind performance of the year.

The top four riders had pretty much checked out within the first couple laps so Tomac had to ride a blistering pace to catch the leaders – posting lap times that were 3 to 4 seconds faster than the other riders. With two laps to go, Tomac had control of the lead and the Washougal crowd was going crazy.

1-1 moto finishes in a dominating fashion is what Tomac was looking for going into the two-week break.

You know it was a strange day at Washougal when 4-3 Moto scores were enough for Aaron Plessinger to take the overall 250cc class win and his third consecutive class win of the series.

Factory Yamaha’s Cooper Webb posted consistent 8-7 Moto finishes in the 450cc class taking 6th on the day.

Justin Hill ran up front in Moto 1 until the “Tomac Train” derailed his hopes for a top 3 finish. Hill went on to post 4-37 finishes for 12th overall.

Joey Savatgy and Austin Forkner were 1-2 out of the gate and Savatgy led the first moto up through lap 5 where Forkner took over the lead, setting a faster pace. Savatgy dug deep and caught Forkner on lap 12, taking back the lead and the eventual Moto 1 win. Unfortunately for Savatgy, he got buried off the start of Moto 2 and was 25th on the opening lap. He pushed hard to finish 9th and his 1-9 scores were good enough for the 3rd spot on the podium.

A slow start netted Dylan Ferrandis an 11th place finish in Moto 1.

He redeemed himself in Moto 2 with a 2nd place finish to take 4th overall on the day.

Austin Forkner was having a great day, leading Moto 1 for a few laps and eventually finished 2nd. Then Moto 2 happened! While scrubbing a jump, Forkner’s front tire clipped the top of the jump and he slammed into the ground in a spectacular fashion. Sounds like he’ll be okay and will use the two-week break to get ready for the Unadilla round on August 11.

Round 7 – Rockstar Energy Triple Crown Series MX Tour

Riverglade MX Park – Moncton, NB – July 29, 2018

Rockstar Energy OTSFF Yamaha's Matt Goerke and Dillan Epstein (above) delivered an impressive 2-3 overall finish in the volatile 450 Pro class. Goerke hammered down second overall on the strength of 3-3 motos while Epstein snared third overall thanks to 2-4 motos.
