2018 Southwick Motocross Review | Red Rider Race Report | Transworld Motocross
In hot, humid conditions at what is arguably the roughest circuit of the AMA Pro Motocross series, Team Honda HRC's Ken Roczen continued his positive return from injuries, tallying 5-5 moto finishes for fifth overall in Southwick, Massachusetts, home of The Wick 338.
With Jeremy Martin now out for the remainder of the season, RJ Hampshire, Chase Sexton, and Cameron Mcadoo were left to fly the GEICO Honda flag in the 250MX class at Southwick, and Hampshire put in a 7-3 moto tally for a respectable fourth overall. Sexton went 5-14 for eighth, while Mcadoo notched 9-13 results for 11th.
The 70th Dutch TT at Assen will probably long be recalled by bike fans around the world as one of the best MotoGP races in the series' history; the eight protagonists for a podium finish in the 26-lap battle will definitely remember it that way. The fight began when the lights went off and only ended when the checkered flag established the top-3 riders who fought in the closest top-fifteen of all time. By that point, Marc Marquez had finally pulled a two-second gap on the chasing group, but until around three laps from the end he had been fighting tooth-and-nail with Rins, Viñales, Dovizioso, Rossi, and Lorenzo, without a moment's pause. The World Champion ultimately prevailed over all his opponents to take his 65th career win and his 39th in MotoGP, extending his advantage in the standings to 41 over Valentino Rossi.
Tim Gajser wrapped up his MXGP of Indonesia with a brace of fourth places in the two motos at Pangkal Pinang. These gave him a fourth position overall and helped him move up to fifth in the championship standings. His teammate Todd Waters improved on his first-moto performance and claimed 14th place in race two despite a crash in the early stages.
Calvin Vlaanderen wrote an exciting page in the history of Honda in the Motocross World Championship by winning the MX2 class at the MXGP of Indonesia, while giving himself and the new Honda CRF250RW their first success in the series. This first overall victory for the brand in the category since Assen 2015 was the result of a superb performance by the South African rider in race two, where he dominated from start to finish.
This weekend saw Emanuele Facchetti claim his first enduro podium with Matteo Boffelli's Honda Racing RedMoto World Enduro Team at the GP of Trentino, run on Friday evening and Saturday at Metzeler Off Road Park.
