Racer X has learned that Tyler Evans, the bombastic, talented, former top privateer of AMA Supercross has passed away. Evans was 38 years old.

While we have heard several stories as to the cause of death, we won't report on any of the rumors until they can be verified. We have heard that Tyler passed over the weekend in San Diego.

Evans is best known for his "One Punch" nickname and tough-guy image, one that launched his popularity far beyond his results. He was a very talented racer, though. He logged several strong 125 AMA Supercross results, including a second at the 1999 Dave Coombs Sr. East/West 125 Shootout in Las Vegas, but really came into his own several years later as a Suzuki-supported RM250 rider, playing up his image with the "One Punch" nickname, burly physique and trademark "EVANS" tattoo across his abdomen.

He was a solid, consistent player week to week, scoring tenth in points in the premiere class of supercross in 2004, and 11th in 2005. His career-best finish in the top class was a pair of sixths. By then, his "One Punch" image was in full song, as he found a unique place in the sport due to the edge carved into his personality and look.

Rest in Peace, Tyler Evans.
