Alpinestars Unveils 2019 Protective Gear
For 55 years now, Alpinestars as been one of the major players in motorcycle safety apparel. And although it has had great success on the on-road side of it brand, the company’s roots are in off-road. At the beginning of the Alpinestars 2019 Off-Road Collection Press Preview, members of the media were assured that the company is very off-road driven. With the launch of a massive racing and development program, as well as direct feedback from their top athletes such as Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Eli Tomac, Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Jason Anderson, and Monster Energy/Yamaha Factory Racing’s Justin Barcia, Alpinestars is committed to developing and producing the most protective and highly functional gear for its athletes and consumers alike. And now, with addition of the new Supertech M10 Helmet, it offers complete head to toe protection.
Supertech M10 Helmet
Within a fully equipped helmet testing facility inside the Alpinestars Racing Development Center, the Supertech M10 has seen more than five years of extensive research. The S-M10 is constructed of a 3K, high-density carbon layer shell, a multi-density EPS polymer liner, a strategic MIPS liner, a patented Visor Release System, and a specialized A-Head Fitment System. The integrity of the helmet’s design is to disperse impact energy throughout the carbon shell and EPS liner to ensure maximum head protection in any crash situation. The S-M10 is equipped with Emergency Release System cheek pads as well as being eject inflation system compatible. Alpinestars offers the Supertech M10 for $649.95 in five colorways and four shell sizes, ranging from small to XL.
Tech 10 Boot
The new generation Tech 10 shares nearly nothing with the previous model Tech 10 due to a push for a stronger, lighter, and ultimately safer riding boot. Alpinestars has put in a lot of testing, research, and development to further progress its flagship motocross and off-road boot. The previous-generation Tech 10 is already very light. However, Alpinestars was able to drop an additional 1.3 pounds with the new Tech 10. The new boot has a one-piece, multi-density injection-molded lower that has a shorter, thinner, and lower-profile toe box than ever before. With feedback from its top athletes and test riders, Alpinestars discovered which section of the boot needed to have a denser injection-molded plastic and which section should have a medium to hard density to not only save weight, but increase comfort and mobility.
Alpinestars has also made it a priority to increase the internal protection of the boot. Constructed with an integrated shank support and a replaceable Dynamic Heel Compression Protector (DHCP), the Tech 10 is designed to absorb and disperse high-energy impacts delivered to the heel. Carried over from the previous generation, the rear sliding blade is now complemented with a front sliding blade that is linked to a Flexion Control System, which is then connected to a frame system at the bottom of the buckle base. This entire system is designed to work together simultaneously to prevent extreme tension and compression delivered to the front of the leg.
The sides of the new Tech 10 are constructed with an external multi-link system that is designed to allow for greater front to back flexibility, while ultimately working together with the internal Biomechanical Ankle Brace System to allow for proper torsional flex and to dissipate any twisting forces applied to the boot. Finally, what holds all these intricate parts together is a newly engineered cold-forged buckle system that is designed to provide a lighter, stronger, and lower-profile buckle.
The BNS Tech-2 is Alpinestars’ newest neck brace. Revised from its predecessors, the BNS Pro and BNS Tech Carbon, the new BNS Tech-2 has been redesigned and constructed with an advanced fiber-polymer compound. The BNS Tech-2 has an upgraded chin plate design as well as new lightweight EVA foam padding on the chest and back. In an effort to promote Progressive Force Relief and disperse high-impact energy outward toward the shoulders and away from the spine, the BNS Tech-2 is constructed with a rear stabilizer as well as a Size Adapter System for a proper fit and to allow the brace to absorb impacts better.
Alpinestars has released its new premier off-road jacket and pant, both of which are called the Venture R. Inspired and developed by the Dakar and rally team, the Venture R Jacket has been tested in some of the toughest riding conditions and is constructed from a rip-stop nylon and polyester fabric. The Venture R Jacket is lightweight, water resistant, and extremely abrasion resistant. The Venture R Jacket incorporates a utility pocket, detachable sleeves, a microfiber lining, and strategic airflow vents for optimal use in all conditions—hot or cold. Its slim construction and stretch sleeve panels offer a performance-like fit as well.
