Day 3 Photo Epic - NZ enduro 2019 - Pinkbike
The Santa Cruz NZ Enduro 2019 is in the books and it's safe to say that it's been a helluva ride. The third day rounded up an outstanding selection of the Marlborough regions finest and wildest trails. The organizers had planned a more gentle journey for the final day compared to the first two days. Although being around half the distance either of the previous days, riders faced almost the same amount descending as the brutal second day. The Butchers Flat camping area in Wakamarina was the central location for this third journey. Riders left the jungle to experience a dramatic change of landscape and soil conditions compared to the previous days. The final stages delivered open views and fast trails with plenty of switchbacks from top to bottom.
Finally, the weather had mercy on us and kept the rain at bay for the last day. The sun found its way through the clouds providing us with warmer conditions, the riders were able to enjoy the Jentree trails with perfect grip conditions. A huge shoutout goes to former pro rider Justin Leov for the work he's doing to develop the mountain biking scene and trails in this area.Argentinosaurus was the chosen trail for Stage 1, a track built with the generous help of two Argentinan riders who had planned five days in the area and decided to stay for two weeks to work on this descent. Stage 2 took the riders to Wonder trail, a hardpacked trail with fast and flowy sections. Today there were no surprises in the overall results, with both Ines Thoma and Dimitri Tordo assuring their positions and taking the win home. For those interested Phil Town, the guy running the Chromag Stylus hardtail with no dropper post, ended up second to last in Amateur men category, although not everyone in that field managed to complete the whole event.See you next year NZ Enduro. Thanks for a good time!
