Angel Suarez and Tahnee Seagrave Win Portugal Cup Round 1

Tahnee Seagrave and Angel Suarez ended on top of the pile at the first stop of the Portugal Cup this weekend.

The Portugal Cup series has quickly established itself as a way for Europe's downhill elite to get some sneaky race practice in before the season starts properly. Under winter sunshine and with a menu of techy tracks to chose from, it's an easy way to to simulate race intensity in a more relaxed (and warmer) setting. Those of us watching get to see who is looking fast early in the season, and maybe adjust our Fantasy teams accordingly.

Round 1 of the series took place last weekend in São Brás de Alportel on the southern coast. The track is a regular in the Portugal Cup calendar and is fairly flat and physical. If you haven't been putting in the hard yards in the gym, it will definitely find you out. Here's a helmet cam video from this weekend:

In the women's race, Tahnee Seagrave took the win by 2.4 seconds from Veronika Widmann. The two World Cup riders were a class apart with third place falling to Portugese rider Margarida Bandeira nearly 30 seconds back.In the men's race, Angel Suarez proved he's having no problem flying solo on the YT Mob and won the elite men's race by over a second. Jose Borges was second and Jack Reading was third.
